Tata Motors sign MOU with Hindustan Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. for Charging Station across India

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a trailblazer in India’s electric vehicle revolution, has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to collaborate on setting up public charging stations nationwide. This strategic partnership capitalizes on HPCL’s extensive fuel station network and TPEM’s vast experience garnered from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs traversing Indian roads. The goal is to install chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners, enhancing accessibility and convenience. Moreover, HPCL plans to utilize data insights from charger usage to enhance the overall customer experience.

The collaboration between TPEM and HPCL is geared towards enhancing the EV ownership experience in India and encouraging more individuals to embrace electric vehicles. One of the key initiatives under consideration is the introduction of a seamless payment system via a co-branded RFID card, simplifying the charging process for users.

While TPEM commands a dominant market share of over 68% in the electric passenger vehicle segment, HPCL boasts a vast network of over 21,500 fuel stations across the country, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability. HPCL has ambitious plans to install 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations by December 2024, further bolstering the charging infrastructure in India.

Debashis Chakravarty, Chief General Manager of Retail Strategy & BD at HPCL, underscored the alliance’s significance in leveraging Tata Motors’ extensive vehicle base to expand EV charging infrastructure, thereby addressing range anxiety among EV customers.

The partnership between TPEM and HPCL signifies a concerted effort to accelerate India’s EV growth trajectory by ensuring ubiquitous and convenient charging infrastructure, a crucial factor in driving EV adoption. Through collaborative initiatives, these industry leaders aim to propel India’s EV ecosystem into its next phase of growth.

Citroen C3 In Automatic Gearbox

Citroen C3 hatchback

Citroen C3 will receive an automatic gearbox in Q-2

The Citroen C3 hatchback, introduced as part of the C-cubed initiative in India, has encountered difficulties in the market. Its lack of certain features, notably an automatic gearbox option, has hindered its appeal among potential buyers.

However, Citroen aims to address these shortcomings with upcoming updates. It has been confirmed that the C3 will receive feature enhancements, including the addition of an automatic gearbox variant, expected to be available by June this year.

The automatic transmission option will be paired with the higher-spec 110hp, 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which currently only offers a manual gearbox. This gearbox, a 6-speed torque converter unit, is similar to what’s found in the C3 Aircross SUV.

With the introduction of the automatic gearbox, Citroen anticipates a premium of over Rs 1 lakh compared to the equivalent manual variant. This pricing strategy aligns with the premium charged for the automatic variants of the Citroen C3 Aircross.

In addition to the automatic gearbox, the C3 will also receive new features such as automatic air conditioning, a foldable key, and LED headlights. Citroen is committed to enhancing safety as well, with plans to equip the C3 with six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, and rear seatbelt reminders as standard by mid-2024. These enhancements are particularly significant following the eC3 hatchback’s recent 0-star safety rating from Global NCAP.

Looking ahead, Citroen is preparing for a more comprehensive facelift next year, which will likely include a redesigned exterior and interior to further enhance the appeal of the C3 in the competitive hatchback segment.

Citroen e-C3 0 Star Rating

Citroen e-C3 scores 0 star in GNCAP

Citroen e-C3 not safe, scores 0 star in GNCAP

The Citroen e-C3, with its standard safety features including ABS, EBS, and Dual Airbags, stands as a beacon of Citroen’s venture into the electric vehicle realm. It epitomizes the brand’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and contemporary design. This compact electric car seamlessly integrates the beloved features of the Citroen e-C3 with an eco-friendly electric drivetrain, presenting drivers with an enticing option in the swiftly evolving world of electric mobility.

In safety assessments of GNCAP, the e-C3 demonstrates commendable performance in certain aspects while also highlighting areas for improvement. In frontal impact tests, the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck is rated as good. However, there are concerns regarding the chest protection, particularly for the driver, which has been deemed weak. The passenger’s chest protection is rated even lower, earning a poor rating and affecting the overall safety rating.

Moreover, there are observations regarding the knee protection, with the driver’s knees receiving marginal protection due to potential impact with hazardous structures behind the fascia. On the other hand, the passenger’s knees fare better, showing good protection. Despite these variations, the bodyshell is deemed stable, capable of withstanding further loadings.

Moving to side impact tests, the head protection is rated as marginal, while the chest, abdomen, and pelvis receive varying levels of protection, ranging from adequate to good. However, the disparity between the results of frontal and side impact tests leads to a reduction in the overall safety rating.

Unfortunately, side pole impact tests could not be conducted due to the unavailability of side head protection, even as an optional feature. Additionally, the absence of ESC as standard and its failure to meet minimum availability requirements further contribute to the vehicle’s safety rating.

In assessments related to child safety, the e-C3 exhibits mixed results. While the child seat for the 3-year-old installed forward-facing using the adult seatbelt fails to prevent excessive forward exposure and head contact with the vehicle interior, the side impact tests show full protection. However, certain positions, such as the rear right position, are exempted for universal CRS by the manufacturer, impacting the dynamic points scored.

Furthermore, the vehicle lacks standard features such as 3-point belts in all seating positions and at least 2 Isofix positions. While there are markings warning consumers about the risk of rearward-facing CRS in the front passenger position, the absence of the possibility to disconnect the passenger airbag in such scenarios is noted.

Overall, while the Citroen e-C3 demonstrates promising features and performance in certain safety aspects, there are notable areas where enhancements are warranted to elevate its safety credentials and ensure the utmost protection for occupants, especially children.
