XCIENT Fuel Cell Trucks New Records 10 Million KM

Hyundai Motor’s Milestone Achievement in Eco-Friendly Transportation with XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks crossed 10 million kilometers in fleet usage

In just three years and eight months, since the XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks began operations in Switzerland in October 2020, these vehicles have collectively driven over 10 million kilometers. This remarkable distance reflects the trucks’ reliability and the growing adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in heavy-duty transportation.

Significant Environmental Impact

The deployment of XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks has led to a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. Compared to traditional diesel trucks, which would have emitted approximately 6,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the same distance, the XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks offer a cleaner alternative. This reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption of around 700,000 pine trees, or the creation of a pine forest spanning 508 hectares (5 million square meters).

Advancing Hydrogen Technology

All XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks operating in Switzerland utilize ‘green hydrogen,’ ensuring zero carbon emissions during production. This initiative supports the creation of an eco-friendly hydrogen value chain in Europe, contributing significantly to the advancement of hydrogen fuel cell system technology.

Hyundai Motor continually analyzes data on mileage, hydrogen consumption, and fuel cell stack performance to enhance and expand its hydrogen technology across various vehicle types. Hyundai’s XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks are now operational in 10 countries. This global presence highlights the truck’s reliability and eco-friendliness, further establishing Hyundai as a global leader in hydrogen mobility solutions.

Supporting a Hydrogen Ecosystem

Hyundai Motor is not only supplying hydrogen trucks but also actively participating in creating a comprehensive commercial hydrogen ecosystem. This includes production, charging infrastructure, and the consumption of hydrogen. At CES 2024, Hyundai announced the expansion of HTWO, its hydrogen fuel cell system brand, which will now encompass the entire hydrogen value chain business for the Hyundai Group. This expansion aims to expedite the transition to a hydrogen-based society.

Commitment to Clean Logistics

In the U.S., Hyundai Motor has introduced its hydrogen vision and clean logistics business. Notably, the NorCAL ZERO Project in California involves the deployment of 30 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks for transporting freight containers and vehicles. Additionally, the Clean Logistics Project aims to reduce emissions by deploying these trucks at Hyundai Motor Group’s production facility, HMGMA, in Georgia.

Conclusion

Hyundai Motor‘s XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks reaching 10 million kilometers in Swiss fleet usage is a testament to the robustness and eco-friendliness of hydrogen fuel cell technology. This milestone not only showcases Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability but also marks a significant step towards a greener future. As Hyundai continues to innovate and expand its hydrogen initiatives globally, the transition to a sustainable hydrogen society becomes increasingly tangible.
