Citroen C3 will receive an automatic gearbox in Q-2
The Citroen C3 hatchback, introduced as part of the C-cubed initiative in India, has encountered difficulties in the market. Its lack of certain features, notably an automatic gearbox option, has hindered its appeal among potential buyers.
However, Citroen aims to address these shortcomings with upcoming updates. It has been confirmed that the C3 will receive feature enhancements, including the addition of an automatic gearbox variant, expected to be available by June this year.
The automatic transmission option will be paired with the higher-spec 110hp, 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which currently only offers a manual gearbox. This gearbox, a 6-speed torque converter unit, is similar to what’s found in the C3 Aircross SUV.
With the introduction of the automatic gearbox, Citroen anticipates a premium of over Rs 1 lakh compared to the equivalent manual variant. This pricing strategy aligns with the premium charged for the automatic variants of the Citroen C3 Aircross.
In addition to the automatic gearbox, the C3 will also receive new features such as automatic air conditioning, a foldable key, and LED headlights. Citroen is committed to enhancing safety as well, with plans to equip the C3 with six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, and rear seatbelt reminders as standard by mid-2024. These enhancements are particularly significant following the eC3 hatchback’s recent 0-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
Looking ahead, Citroen is preparing for a more comprehensive facelift next year, which will likely include a redesigned exterior and interior to further enhance the appeal of the C3 in the competitive hatchback segment.
