New Mercedes Electric G-Class Winner Of Trophy

Mercedes Electric G-Class: Returns the Trophy to The Open Golf Championship

Mercedes Electric G-Class made a grand entrance at The Open golf championship this year, carrying the prestigious Claret Jug trophy back to the tournament. With an impressive combined energy consumption of 30.3-27.7 kWh/100 km and zero CO₂ emissions, the electric G-Class exemplifies Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The Champion’s Return

In a fitting start to the 152nd edition of The Open, last year’s champion, Brian Harman, returned the Claret Jug to the course in Troon, Scotland. Harman handed over the trophy to Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, in a symbolic moment that highlighted Mercedes-Benz’s role as an official Patron of the championship since 2011.

“The ‘Return of the Claret Jug’ by the defending champion is a symbolic moment in the week of The Open and Mercedes‑Benz has played an important role in supporting this tradition at the Championship each year. We share similar values in which the combination of tradition and innovation are reflected in everything that we do,” said Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A.

Enhancing The Open Experience

Mercedes-Benz continues to innovate by integrating The Open’s official app into their vehicles, allowing drivers to follow the championship in real-time. This feature underscores the brand’s vision of transforming cars into extended living spaces, enhancing the driving experience with cutting-edge technology.

“Our partnership with The Open reflects our shared values of tradition and innovation. By integrating the official The Open app into our vehicles, we are demonstrating the future of mobility and enabling our customers to experience the prestigious championship in a completely new way, at any time,” said Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Mercedes-Benz will provide a shuttle fleet comprising hybrid and all-electric vehicles for guests, players, and officials throughout the championship. This initiative is part of the brand’s ongoing effort to promote sustainable mobility solutions.

A Unique Celebration

The 152nd Open will be hosted at Troon, marking the tenth time the tournament has been held at this historic venue. This year’s event is a unique celebration of golf, tradition, and modern innovation. Mercedes-Benz’s long-standing partnership with The Open and The R&A has led to a special campaign in St Andrews, the home of golf, blending lifestyle, sport, and the brand’s iconic history.

The Open, the only golf major played outside the USA, will run from July 14 to July 21, 2024. As always, it will be a spectacular showcase of the best in golf, amplified by Mercedes-Benz’s unwavering support and innovative contributions.
