Skoda Auto India Equips the Kushaq Onyx with Automatic Transmission
Skoda Auto India continues its strategy of enhancing its product lineup by introducing the Kushaq Onyx AT. Originally released in Q1 2023, the Onyx variant was developed based on customer feedback to provide high value and satisfaction to Skoda fans. Responding to ongoing customer input, Skoda has now further upgraded the Kushaq Onyx with an automatic transmission and a suite of new features, making it the most affordable automatic option in its segment.

Enhanced Features and Safety
Positioned between the currently Active and Ambition variants, the Onyx AT incorporates several features from the higher Ambition variant:
Exterior Enhancements: Skoda Crystalline LED headlamps with DRLs, front fog lamps with static cornering function, rear wiper, and defogger. The vehicle also features Tecton Wheel covers and ‘Onyx’ badging on the B-pillars.
Interior Upgrades: Hill Hold Control, Paddle Shifters, a 2-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel with a chrome scroller, Climatronic touch panel, and Onyx-themed cushions and textile mats. The front scruff plates now feature an ‘Onyx’ inscription.
Safety: All new Onyx AT models come equipped with six airbags as standard.
Performance and Efficiency
The Onyx AT is powered by Skoda’s reliable 1.0 TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 85 kW (115 PS) of power and 178 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Kushaq has been tested under the Global New Car Assessment Programme’s newer and stricter protocols, scoring 29.64 points out of 34 for adult occupant safety and 42 out of 49 points for child safety. It was the first made-in-India car to achieve a full five-star rating for both adult and child protection.
Built for India
The Kushaq is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, developed specifically for India with a focus on high localization (95%) and low cost of ownership (starting at Rs 0.46 per kilometer). Introduced in July 2021, the Kushaq is Skoda’s flagship SUV in India. Following the Kushaq, the Slavia sedan was launched in March 2022. Skoda has also announced an all-new compact SUV based on this platform, set to debut in 2025.
