The Lamborghini Urus SE, hailed as the first plug-in hybrid Super SUV, made its highly anticipated debut in the United States at a private event hosted at the Lamborghini Lounge NYC in New York’s vibrant Chelsea Arts District. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, graced the occasion alongside long-standing Lamborghini patrons, VIPs, and members of the media, joined by Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer, and Federico Foschini, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer.
“Introducing the latest rendition of the Urus Super SUV, our best-selling model, in New York has been a momentous occasion for us, and we are privileged to commemorate this milestone with our valued customers and associates at the Lamborghini Lounge,” remarked Winkelmann. The Urus SE epitomizes the fundamental elements of our brand’s DNA and philosophy, offering an unmatched blend of driving pleasure and dynamic performance. With the growing demand for SUVs in the U.S. market, we must offer our customers a hybrid vehicle that not only excites but also meets their everyday requirements.”
Lamborghini Urus SE Powertrain
Unveiled, at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, the Urus SE stands as the most potent iteration of the Urus yet, elevating the driving experience with its plug-in hybrid system, which enhances performance and dynamics. Equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine and a 25-kWh lithium-ion battery, the Urus SE boasts an impressive total output of 800 CV (789 horsepower) and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds (Urus S: 3.5), achieving a top speed of 194 mph (Urus S: 190 mph).
The permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor housed within the 8-speed automatic transmission not only serves as a boost for the V8 combustion engine but also functions as a traction element, transforming the Urus SE into a 100% electric 4WD vehicle capable of traveling over 37.28 miles in EV mode.
Strategy about Lamborghini Urus SE
With the introduction of the Urus SE, Lamborghini continues to advance its Direzione Cor Tauri 2.0 strategy, furthering the electrification of the Urus lineup and embarking on the path towards decarbonization that commenced with the unveiling of the Revuelto in March 2023. By the conclusion of 2024, this electrification initiative will extend to the launch of a second HPEV (High-Performance Electrified Vehicle) in the lineup, replacing the Huracán.
In 2023, Lamborghini witnessed yet another record year for sales in North America, with 3,465 cars delivered across the region, solidifying its position as the leading market for the brand. Globally, Urus sales surged from 5,367 in 2022 to 6,087 in 2023, accompanied by another notable milestone for the Huracán, with 3,962 units delivered compared to 3,113 in 2022. Customers eagerly anticipate taking delivery of the Urus SE, with deliveries slated to commence by the end of 2024.
